After a career that started in 1989 as the Head Coach at South Hopkins High School and being the only Coach at Hopkins County Central for it's 17 years Coach Jesse Huff is stepping down from Coaching. His staff of Coach Akin and Coach Darnall are also stepping down. We would like to thank all the Friendships we have developed through coaching and all the help we have received from other coaches. Hopkins County Central has not named a replacement yet.
Tony Hayden of the Reidland Lady Greyhounds recorded his 200th career win on May 28, 2013 against Graves Co. by the score of 5-1. His 7 year coaching record at Reidland High School is 200-60-2. This past weekend Woodford County sophomore Keely Moussette set a new single game state record with 2 grand slams in 1 game. She also set a new state record with 2 grand slams in consecutive at bats. She had a total of 8 RBI's in the game, also putting her in the record books.
I just learned of the bus accident with the Union Co. Softball Team (May 10, 2013). The team was on the way to a game with Livingston Central HS. The bus ended up on its side in a ditch. Fortunately there were not any life threatening injuries, but all aboard were bounced around and shaken up quite a bit. Click here for story. Today, I spoke with Nikki Conway (Union Co. Head Coach) to get an update. This is what she told me:
“The team is recovering although it has been a slow process. All with stitches (including myself) have had those stitches removed and we are finally beginning to get over the soreness that lasted longer than I expected. We played our first game last night (District game against Webster at Henderson) since the accident. It was an exciting night! We won 3-0, which puts us automatically playing in the Regional tournament. We have all varsity players back except for 3. They are out with broken bones and concussions. We were just very blessed that we are able to finish out our season and all players can at least watch the games. The support we have received from the community, other ball teams, parents, people we don't even know, has been amazing. It has really influenced our girls to not quit, to keep playing at their greatest potential.”
This is a great story of teammates pulling together through adversity. Good luck to the Union County Softball Team! Handle prosperity with class; expect adversity and be prepared. Do your best in good and bad times. There is no quit in this team! - Bob Griggs (KSCA and Lexington Catholic HS)
